Safety tools should work for everyone. This statement explains what we are aiming for, what we have done, and where we know we still fall short.
1. Our goal
We aim for the Aegixo website and web dashboards to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we are working to make the mobile apps usable with the accessibility features built into iOS and Android. We have not had a formal third-party accessibility audit yet.
2. What we have done
- Semantic page structure with headings, landmarks and a "skip to content" link.
- Everything on the website and dashboards can be used with a keyboard, with visible focus indicators.
- Text and interface colours chosen for strong contrast, with a dark mode on the dashboards.
- Animations are reduced or turned off if your device asks for reduced motion.
- Descriptive labels and alternative text on icons, buttons and images.
- Pages that adapt to phones, tablets and desktop, and zoom up to 200% without losing content.
3. Known limitations
- The SOS slide. Sending an SOS needs a slide gesture, to prevent accidental alerts. We know this can be hard for people with limited dexterity, and we are looking at alternative confirmations.
- Maps. Maps are visual. The dashboards also show the alert's coordinates as text, but the map view itself is not fully usable with a screen reader.
- Screen readers in the mobile apps. Some screens may not yet be labelled as well as they should be. We are reviewing them.
- Third-party content. Nomba's payment page and OpenStreetMap content are outside our control.
4. Tell us what is not working
If you hit a barrier, or need information in another format, email hello@aegixo.com with the subject "Accessibility feedback". Tell us the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and the device and assistive technology you use if you can. We read every message and will tell you what we can do.
5. Updates
We will update this statement as we improve and as we find new issues.
